After upgrading the QuickTime Player on Windows to the latest version, videos can no longer be played in iScreensaver Designer 4.5.0.388. The preview screen remains empty and I get the following error after some time:
12:30 55335 3 Stage.TransitionThread: timed out waiting for load of movie.mov
The video used to play just fine, the only thing that’s changed is I upgraded QuickTime Player to version 7.7.9.
QuickTime 7.7.9 is Apples “last update” and for security reasons, completely removes the QuickTime Plugin which iScreensaver utilizes.
Apple’s documents claim that one can re-install the QuickTime plugin component, but we have received mixed reports of this actually working.
“The QuickTime web browser plug-in is no longer installed by default and is removed if you have a previous version of QuickTime on your PC. If you still need this legacy plug-in, you can add it back using the custom setup option in the installer.”
So the options are to revert back to an older version of QuickTime prior to 7.7.9, or else get the plugin re-installed.
I tried iScreensaver 5.0 but it won’t run on Windows 7 and I don’t want to upgrade that PC to Windows 10. I do have a Macbook for home use that will probably run the software…
For now I’ll try to get that QuickTime web browser plug-in installed again, but I understand it may be problematic for the screensaver users as well.
