macOS Code-signing on Sonoma - detritus not allowed

We have received reports that sometimes when signing your macOS iScreensaver installer app, the codesign process fails with an error message:

resource fork, Finder information, or similar detritus not allowed

This seems to be more likely on the latest macOS (Sonoma).

We are still investigating this issue, but have heard reports that it may be due to a bug related to iCloud folder syncrhonization.

Possible solutions:

  • relocate your iScreensaver project folder to a location that is not being synchronized to iCloud, such as to the Desktop (if you don’t have that folder being syncrhonized) or the /Users folder.
  • rename your iScreensaver project folder to end in “.nosync” . For example, if your folder was named
    My Screensaver Project
you would rename the project folder to
    My Screensaver Project.nosync

Update: we are getting reports that updating from Sonoma 14.0 to 14.1 solves the issue.
